The loneliness of human in life, in the world… When people are on the road, loneliness becomes more obvious. In order to overcome this, a self-talk begins, and we almost want to become friends with the images on the road. Then, we start to think about our own existence and life… As everyone can easily see, life is a kind of road and human is the traveller…
Let us try to communicate with the images themselves. No speech, just the original sounds with corresponding real-time scenes. In “Road” the protagonists are clouds, trees, birds, water, distant people, and the spectators themselves. They do not speak to us with words, but with movements and sounds. In daily life, very little time left to think and many people actually don't listen to each other. While we are on the road, we talk to ourselves through an internal monologue, we make our inner speeches.
This short movie was created based on a scenario derived from lots of short video sequences shot by Mehmet Bayar, in Turkey and Italy. There is no speech in this movie, but an internal monologue written on the images as subtitles. The movie has English, Italian, and Turkish versions.

Ä°nsanın hayatta, dünyada yalnızlığı… Ä°nsan yoldayken, yalnızlık daha da belirginleÅŸir. Bununla mücadele etmek için bir iç konuÅŸma baÅŸlar. Yoldaki görüntülerle adeta arkadaÅŸ olmak isteriz. Sonra varoluÅŸumuz ve hayatımız düÅŸünmeye baÅŸlanır. Herkesin tahmin edebileceÄŸi gibi, hayat bir yol ve insan da bir yolcudur.
Görüntülerin kendileriyle iletiÅŸim kurmaya çalışalım. Sesli konuÅŸma olmadan, yalnızca yanında gerçek zamanlı sahnelerle birlikte orjinal sesler var. "Yol"da kahramanlar bulutlar, aÄŸaçlar, kuÅŸlar, su, uzaktaki insanlar ve bizzat seyircilerdir. Bizimle kelimelerle deÄŸil, hareketler ve seslerle konuÅŸurlar.
Günlük hayatımızda düÅŸünmek için çok az zaman kalır ve birçok insan aslında birbirini dinlemez. Yoldayken kendi kendimize konuÅŸur, iç konuÅŸmalarımızı yaparız.
Bu kısa film, Mehmet Bayar'ın Türkiye ve Ä°talya'da çektiÄŸi çok sayıda kısa video sekansları ve senaryo esas alınarak oluÅŸturulmuÅŸtur. Sesli konuÅŸma yoktur, sözler görüntülerin üzerine sadece altyazı olarak yazılmıştır. Filmin Ä°ngilizce, Ä°talyanca ve Türkçe versiyonları bulunmaktadır.

Director’s statement about the film "Road":

The main character is not a specific person but an average human her/himself, in front of the world and universe as a lonely creature. This loneliness is not a kind of social or psychological one. It originates from the nature of human existence in the universe and from the limits of his/her body physically and philosophically.
This is a film that impels the spectator to think about life and loneliness with the images and scenes outside. Could they mean something different to us? And what does it mean to be a viewer and exist together in the same scenes with what we see? Images can be looked at differently, and the sounds can be heard with a different sense.
The talk-free aspect of the world, composed of images, movements and sounds. They present a different form of communication from the languages already known to us. While watching these images, the language we use for thinking accompanies us solely as an internal monologue within our own heads. But nobody else can hear those words. Sometimes this self-talk ceases and there is finally silence. And then, we see that we don't know many things, yet we can continue on our way.

We can find our private meanings other than what they have put in our memory before. Self-talk is also a human’s effort to strengthen himself when feeling alone. An attempt to resist and not to go insane when lonely. Actually, road is life itself and human is the traveller, as they are often compared.

Filmde ana karakter, belirli bir kiÅŸi deÄŸil, insanın kendisidir. Dünyanın ve evrenin karşısında yalnız bir yaratıktır. Bu, sosyal ya da psikolojik bir yalnızlık deÄŸildir. Ä°nsanın evrendeki varoluÅŸunun doÄŸasından, fiziksel ve felsefi olarak bedeninin sınırlarından kaynaklanan bir yalnızlıktır.
Görüntü ve seslerle izleyiciyi hayat ve yalnızlık üzerine düÅŸünmeye iten bir film bu. Görüntüler genelden çok farklı anlamlar ifade edebilirler mi? Ä°zleyici olarak, gördüklerimizle aynı sahnelerde birlikte var olmak ne anlama gelebilir?
Görüntüler, hareketler ve seslerden oluÅŸan dünyanın konuÅŸmasız yüzleri, ÅŸimdiye kadar bildiÄŸimiz dillerden farklı bir iletiÅŸim biçimi sunarlar. Bu görüntüleri izlerken, düÅŸünmek için kullandığımız dil, sadece kendi kafamızdaki bir iç ses olarak bize eÅŸlik eder. Ama bizden baÅŸka kimse bu sözleri duyamaz. Bazen bu kendi kendine konuÅŸma susar ve sessizlik olur. Ve sonra görürüz ki pek çok ÅŸeyi bilmiyoruz. Ama yinede, belki yolumuza devam edebiliriz.
Kendi kendine konuÅŸma aynı zamanda insanın kendini yalnız hissettiÄŸinde kendini güçlendirme çabasıdır. Yalnız kaldığında direnme ve delirmeme çabası. Aslında çoÄŸu zaman benzetildiÄŸi gibi yol hayat, insan da yolcudur.
